Day-glo design at Cœur Grenadine

You need to go on a bit of an adventure to track down the best boutiques the City of Lights has to offer. Your first port of call awaits at the gates of the Bois de Vincennes, in the 12th arrondissement. As you turn the street corner, an Art Deco store front catches your eye. The founders, Linda and Jean-Baptiste, welcome you into their cocoon of designer objects; it used to be an antiques shop and the couple were keen to keep that intimate feel. Stationery, decorative items, kitchenware and crockery… the boutique showcases items by stylists from all four corners of the world. The colours are bright, the shapes extravagant and the scents somewhat unusual. You cannot resist having a sniff of the scented candles, made in France by La Belle Mèche. You can already imagine the aroma of peppered cedarwood filling your home with its deep, warm fragrance.

Haili – Parisian women's favourite address

Do not be fooled by Haili's unassuming shop window. What you are standing in front of is the undisputed temple to women's fashion. Its rails are packed with the creations of dozens of trailblazing European designers. All items have been carefully selected by the managers with one overriding criterion in mind: the choice of elegant and original materials. If you love patterned designs, you will not know where to look first. Maybe a jacquard jacket with big, bold flowers will take your fancy? Or perhaps a silk headscarf with red, white and blue checks will find a new home in your wardrobe? Take a closer look: on the bottom shelf, a rainbow-coloured jumper is screaming “Buy me!”.

Fine food aplenty at Le Bel Ordinaire

Right in the middle of the appropriately named Rue Paradis, tantalising aromas draw you to Le Bel Ordinaire. It is impossible to categorise this place, as it is a wine cellar, upmarket delicatessen and restaurant all rolled into one. Brain-child of two passionate foodies, Cyrille and Sébastien, Le Bel Ordinaire proudly displays a specialist selection of almost 500 items from producers in France and the rest of Europe. You might like to pick up an organic jam to sweeten up your breakfasts back home. Perhaps a delicate Livarot cheese with its soft centre and pungent taste will tickle your palate. Good news: the shop also has a large table where you can enjoy a friendly lunch or dinner.

Dante & Maria – Where Givenchy turns trendy

You get the impression that you are entering someone's private lounge when you arrive at Dante & Maria. It is as if you have been invited into an office crammed with curiosities created by Agnès Sinelle, a former designer at Givenchy, and her goldsmith partner. In this place, glamorous jewellery meets temporary tattoos. You will find golden bracelets with an ironic “Bof” (‘whatever') across the front and plant patterns growing over silver pendants – the designer's favourite metal. An air of madness reigns in this quirky boutique on the banks of the Saint-Martin Canal.

Avenue Montaigne – An appointment with luxury

In the heart of Paris's Golden Triangle, shopping is all about dreams, prestige and history. It is here that the great haute-couture fashion houses have their home, starting with Dior. The genius designer's adventure took off back in 1947 in this very street. And ever since, the place has moved through time with the same enduring success. The shop front and windows are regularly redressed, creating a buzz of amazement from passers-by. Inside, clean white lines and elegance prevail. Chandeliers, white walls and mirrors create a play of light which shows off the items on sale to their best advantage. A bit further along the avenue, you come to Céline where the collection of luxury leather goods in an array of colours contrasts with the white marble floors and display shelves. If you ever needed the perfect excuse to travel, then look no further than Louis Vuitton: its famous monogram trunks come in all shapes and sizes, designed to be perfectly at home in a sophisticated apartment. The brand invites you to “express your individuality”, in other words, to order exceptional tailor-made creations. In Avenue Montaigne, these luxury brands use their unparalleled expertise to give you the shopping experience of a lifetime.

Eco-friendly gifts at WE ARE Paris

Next stop is WE ARE Paris in Rue Oberkampf. This unassuming concept store is a cornucopia of decorative items, jewellery and fashion accessories. Everything here is eco-friendly and handmade in France. Browsing the 200 items in store, you fall for a neon-coloured vegan leather card holder. In a corner of the shop, ‘herbivore' candles, made from 100% pure vegetable wax, release their woody fragrance into the air. There is plenty of inspiration here for the gifts you need to buy.

The art of rummaging around at French Touche

Your next shopping destination takes you to the neighbourhood of Batignolles. There you will find an incredible “gallery of objects to be touched”, as its founder, Valérie, likes to call French Touche. This boutique brings together quirky bits and pieces that you will not find anywhere else. No big-brand names here; only little-known artists and designers showcasing their clothes for men, women and children as well as items for the home. Pagil Blaja lacquered-wood jewellery sits happily next to cute babygrows and funky cushions. If you love having a good rummage around, you will be spoiled for choice here!

Big-hearted shopping thanks to Merci

Merci has everything. On the edge of the Marais district, this Parisian temple of shopping extends over 1,500 m2 and has creations of all types, from fashion to decorative items, linens to homeware. Merci is also a humanitarian project as a large part of the profits made by this young company go to development projects in Madagascar. Within its walls, in the shade of its plant-filled indoor courtyard, a Zig-Zag bottle opener intrigues you with its concertina mechanism. Retro watches by Pappwatch fascinate with their amazing rectangular shape. Further on, an entire wall is decorated with washed-linen tablecloths and napkins in various shades. Green, red, yellow… A festival of colours and textures adorn this chock-a-block boutique… and maybe soon your home too.

Cosmopolitan trends and French sophistication at FrenchTrotters

Not far from the Place de la Bastille, Rue de Charonne is home to dozens of small-and-friendly boutiques. One of these is FrenchTrotters where everything you see exudes French elegance. However, its founders, Carole and Clarent Dehlouz, have travelled the world to hand-pick their men's and women's clothes and decorative homewares. In fact, these dyed-in-the-wool travellers go to the four corners of the earth in search of talented, unknown designers to show them off to discerning Parisians. A chic pair of casual burgundy brogues placed discreetly on a display stand are just waiting for you to tread the streets of the City of Lights.
